Default Shovel

Anybody have a homemade hood mount for shovel, axe, jack, etc? Just trying to weight my options with Kansas winter approaching.

When it snows, or I'm headed to the beach, I strap on my spare tire mount bike rack.

It barely fits over my spare. However, it holds two shovels and a high lift jack securely. It'll also hold three bikes...

Nice idea, what bike rack is it? I was looking at hitch mount ones but like the ease of the spare tire racks.

It's an Allen rack.

Here's a shot of it with two bikes on it. Tomorrow, I'll hang it on the Jeep with a pair of shovels and take a few photos. It's a simple, easily installed and removed way to haul shovels, jacks and anything else you can strap to it.

What I like best is that it gets long, sharp edged things out of the Jeep.

Using a bike rack to carry spades, shovels, snow shovels and jacks...

I strapped on a short handle spade, a long handle shovel and a snow shovel just to show what can be carried on a spare tire bike rack. I use it for the beach and in the winter when we get heavy snow. It gets the gear out of the Jeep and provides instant access. You can strap all manner of gear to the bike rack. Just because you're not hauling bikes doesn't mean the bike rack doesn't have another use...
