Default shrockworks 2dr slider installation

Hi. Will be installing the shrowckworks sliders on my 2dr this Friday the 8th. I have been told the installation isn't to bad. I would like more feedback from people who have done the installation. Anything that made it easier or harder.? Would you do anything differently if you did it again? How long did it take? etc... Any and all thoughts on the this job is appreciated.

Thanks for the help...
Vince

Once I get to my pc I'll explain more...

Make sure you use the provided drill bit when drilling the side bolts.
Also, don't torque them down much. those selftapping bolts strip very easy.

Ok, here is my install: Gallery

I ran into a few issues because i did not follow the instructions explicitly and wasn't familiar with how self-tapping bolts work.

My first mistake was trying to use a unibit to drill the side mounting holes instead of the provided bit. So, the first hole I drilled was slightly too large for the self tapping bolt. The second one i drilled (the correct size) for that same bracket stripped out. When i went to tighten the bolt I put very little pressure (or so i thought) and the bolt stripped.

Also, pay attention to where you mark the holes to drill. The instructions say to place the bottom mounting tab on-top the skid plate bracket. So, naturally i left the stock skid plate bracket on and placed the shrockworks tab over it. What i believe they mean to say is place it over the tab (i.e. under it... directly on to the frame). This way if you need to remove your fuel tank or transfer case skid you can do so without removing the sliders.

Since i cut the tabs off the bottom of my sliders to have them welded... this was no longer an issue for me.

The rest was easy...

What can i say... it was my first mod and i learned a lot of lessons (like read the instructions... and think before drilling )

Got the sliders today. Removed the Sahara style steps, easy. Bolted up the sliders on the bottom, had a friend mark the holes. Removed sliders. Drilled holes. Only thing different was we tapped the 21/64 holes so install of self tapping was easy. Installed sliders. Very easy install if you are comfortable drilling. Just make sure you mark correctly and double check before drilling. Oh... and we used a batttery powered drill.

They are rugged and being bolted to the frame makes them real solid!

OK guys, help me out, there are a few issues I couldn't figure out. I am installing on an AUTOMATIC JK rubicon.

1) I got 2 spacer plates, I figured out that these go on the rear mounting brackets on the side between the slider and the frame. It seems to space out the back of the slider otherwise it'll be closer to the body than the front. Is this where everyone else put 'em? The instructions didn't say.

2) My slider would not be straight unless I put the front bracket SANDWICHED in between the frame and the cross member for the transmission skid, and the rear bracket NOT SANDWICHED with the transfer case skid, but outside of it. Meaning to take off the TC skid will require removing the slider. I was under the impression the slider went straight to the frame, like in the front, but this didn't line up right. Also, even removing the TC skid there is a plate leftover that still wouldn't let the slider bracket hit the frame directly on the bottom anyway. So is it really supposed to sit outside of the TC skid? Yet INSIDE the tranny skid?

3) I got everything lined up to where it looked good. The instructions specifically say you MUST USE THE TOP hole on the front bracket. NOT the bottom. But there's a hole in my frame right there:

You can see where I marked the hole too (top hole):

There is NO way you should be drilling over another hole or that close to it. What did you all do?

4) I cannot get my drill to the top holes without it being crooked:

I'm afraid if I drill like this the self tapping bolt will be jacked up. Or do you guys think since the frame's thin here and the hole will self tap it will correct itself since it's a small angle? Or should I go thru the trouble of getting a right angle drill?

Thanks guys. I'm calling shrock tomorrow regarding the hole issue but any help from someone who's done it will be appreciated.

Installed mine a while back. Thought the instructions were worthless. Was also confused why they had two holes if you were only suppose to use the top one. They only gave me 4 bolts so I guess that is what they intended. The angle is hard but using the bit they send it still seems to work ok. Make sure you have a good drill with some ass behind it. I tried my little 18V and should not even have bothered. With a lot of elbow grease I got the rear plate in. Hope that helps....

Not sure if there is a difference, but mine is a manual.

Yes, on the back.

Both sides are level, and they're bolted "over" any skid plate supports.

3) I got everything lined up to where it looked good. The instructions specifically say you MUST USE THE TOP hole on the front bracket. NOT the bottom. But there's a hole in my frame right there:

It was close, but used top hole without cutting into original hole.

4) I cannot get my drill to the top holes without it being crooked:

Didn't use right angle, and just made sure self tap bolt was level going in. Mine have been rock solid since install last year. No problems yet.

Thanks guys. I'm calling shrock tomorrow regarding the hole issue but any help from someone who's done it will be appreciated.

Hope you get everything worked out.
