Default Simple Question

I know a lot of you have the Rugged Ridge Euro Tail Guards..... I was just wondering, I have them in chrome and really want to change it up and just go black. would sanding them and spray painting them work well or is this gonna screw them up completely. Advice appreciated.

Thanks a lot. Just finished them and they look awesome!
