ski rack inside jk?
Alright... everyone here is realllly inventive, so i need to tap into some of your unused inginuity. I own a set of very expensive skis, and i would like to always have them with me so that i'm always ready to hit the slope. i don't trust the racks on the outside, and i've held my skis to the inside of the jk unlimited. they fit very nicely on the ceiling to the under side of the roll cage. but how do i keep them up there? and how to i ensure they are secure incase of an accident? here is where you come in?! Please help... i think i'm onto something but i need your help to work out the details
How long are your skis? Just spitballing here but you could slide the skis between the roof and soundbar w/ bindings pointing down, then fab up a bracket spanning the width of the cage (like the soundbar) to fit the bindings between it so they don't slide.
I'm thinking up a similar solution to hold fishing rods.
haven't nailed it down quite yet, but forsee screwing the clamping/securing mechanism in to the speaker bar plastics and then having a support bar just free hanging off the roll bar in the back (4door unlimited).
This might sound kinda odd, But I just bought an aluminum Guitar Capo off amazon, that would have the clamping pressure, size and foam padding you need to hold a ski, and it's really easy in/out. Get 2 of those mounted to the speaker bar in some fashion and a rear bracket to support and you'd be g2g. Capo were like $7.00 a piece. Very sturdy.

just a thought.

Skis are rounghly 5' 6". they fit perfectly when they are together and horizontal to the ground and front to back in the jeep. enough head clearance for backseat, no veiw blocked out the back window or to the passanger side... just don't know how to hold them up there. i want something a little better then rachet straps. i don't want to ruin the shape of the padding around the soundbar and rollcage.
I drop them in reel facing downward and the butt facing the rear of the vehicle, then wrap the really sknny weak bungee cords over the rod, under the roll bar, over the rod and connect the two ends, this works out well on spinning rods, with the reel resting jsut forward of the roll bar. not so much on baitcasters. all my fly rods are less than 3 feet broken down so they just go in thre cases between the roll bar inthe window, so no matter how much crap my fiancee packs I can bring my fishing stuff wherever

Thats nice and all, but this a ski rack thread. and fishing rod don't have the size or weight issues that i'm having with skis. guitar cabo is not a bad idea... but i need the skis to be flush with the bottom of the roll cage to have the room and visibility i need

I'm thinking you could mod up two of these clips to hang upside down from the top roll bars

I'd try it myself but i doubt they'd fit in a 2-door. Looks like all you need to do is give the hanger a few bends since it's made to fit on flat crossbars.
