Default Slave cylinder help

This might be stupid but bear with me... Couldn't find the answer... If I unbolt the two bolts for my slave cylinder will fluid start gushing out??? I need to change the slave because my clutch went soft and I can't disengage the clutch anymore.

Also look at photos what could this fluid be in the second picture? Fluid from the slave?

When you unbolt the slave from the clutch fluid will not gush out. When you disconnect the hydraulic line, you'll have some leakage. That will necessitate bleeding the reservoir. When you do disconnect the line, use care to not lose the O-ring that is on the end of the line.

Your leak appears to be coming out of the vent gap in the bell housing. That could be any of several fluids. Is it oil, brake, or transmission fluid? You should be able to tell be color and smell. Do be aware that brake fluid drops a little as your brake pads wear.

Jason--Your bell housing is the round shaped, front part of the transmission. The clutch parts are contained in that. Yes, a slave cylinder leak ***may*** cause your clutch to stop working. It depends on how bad the leak is. Your pedal will lose all force when that happens. It is like it is disconnected, which essentially it is.

Try comparing the leak residue to known fluids. Smell the residue, then pull out your engine oil dipstick and compare its color and odor. Also compare against the brake fluid. It could be your transmission, though I haven't heard of those seals failing. How many miles on this JK?

If you aren't up to the task, now might be a good time to find a good mechanic. Changing the slave is easy, though bleeding is a two person job. Replacing the engine main seal is a big undertaking. Not recommended for a noob without an experienced guide and a good tool selection.

Thanks, trannia has around 68,000 miles on it. The fluid smells like burnt clutch probably caused by me shifting without a clutch when all the pressure gave out from the clutch pedal. The oil is not low at all, and I see wetness as off the slave did leak but the fluid dried. To be honest I did an engine swap on the jeep found a good deal on a donor engine but that engine has around 100k on it had to swap because of rod knock. It looks like I could unscrew like 8bolts and take the vent cover right off. Oh yeah I have a brand new clutch that I put in with the swap like 3,000 miles ago. Of course noob Jason didn't do the work lol

Pretty important detail. I must have overlooked that earlier. If your clutch pedal gave out, and you have fluid seeping from the bell housing, strong possibility your slave cylinder is shot.

Ok thanks ordered a slave cylinder already just waiting for it to arrive and all or it in I have someone to help me bleed the system. Glad to hear it most likely is not a bigger issue. Can you please look at the photo that I posted for the brake resivoir do u think that's normal level? Thanks compared to maybe your jeep
