Smaller tire for spare ?
 

I have 35's on 16x8's BFG ALL TERRAINS. I have BFG ALL TERRAIN 33", can i use it as a spare as long as i am NOT in 4 wheel drive ?

what happens if you rip up a sidewall while offroad, and you need 4wd to get back out? You're screwed. Get a matching spare imo

As long as you run it up front you can provided you have open diff. Even short distances in 4wd would be fine at low speed.

Don't let the fear mongering "you have to have a rull size spare" crowd get to you. I had my air pump go out after airing up 3 tires once. So I had 3 tires at 32 psi and the passenger front at 7psi. Needless to say there was quite a size difference in those tires. Had no problems driving to a place 20 miles away to get that tire aired up.

Now I wouldn't want to do that over a long distance, but for a short bit you'ld be fine.

Your ESP will freak out. Know how to disable it. If you put it on the rear, even in 2WD, the BLD might try to get involved. And do not put it on a axle with LSD, it'll be hard on the clutches.

So, if you disable the ESP and put it on the front, you'll be okay for a short distance. I'd still buy a spare; that way I could do a 5-way rotation, too.

Horrible idea.. just spend the extra money and get a full size.. dont risk breaking something on your jeep, and having a full size spare mounted on the back just looks better.

Gotta have a matching spare. They are nice to have in a 5-tire rotation. And, the rig just don't look finished if the spare doesn't match. Folks would make fun of ya. :synister:

It's not worth skimping out on something like this. A different size spare presents a host of problems. As for this story below, If I had three tires at 32 psi and one at 7 and no pump I'd be putting my spare on before driving 20 miles to use a compressor. Unless you're driving super slow you're apt to damage the tire at low pressure. That's just one possible scenario though, and not the worst one at that.

Just because you can, does not mean that you should.

When you put your spare on, you should be able to operate your Jeep exactly how you would be able to do without it on. With a mismatched spare, you will not be able to do that.
Having a matched spare also allows you to include it into your rotation which will keep it matching and extend the overall life of your set of tires.

I definately agree. Its no different than a dounut in any other vehicle but screws up rotation and would be the most ghetto Jeep on the block. Just do it right.
