Default Smittybilt Sliders

How do the Smittybilt rock rails hold up? It looks like they provide a step that could be helpfull for my height challenged wife. Their price seems too low to be of heavy good quality tubing. I'm not too crazy about Rubicon rock rails and would like some side body protection.

Thanks

Not sure which model you are talking about. Here's a thread about the XRC Sliders.

I have the smittybilt SRC rock rails for the 4door JK Part # 76644, and i love them for the price! Not the greatest for a side step though as its real plush against the jeep

The powercoating can handle quite a hit without chipping.
My friend who is 250lbs+ can jump on the rails with no flexing or movement, and i was even able to hi-lift my jeep using the rock rails
Only took about 20 mins to install myself too

For only $250 its well worth the protection you get not just from rocks, but also stupid people in parking lots.. Looks real nice too with a black jeep

I saw what I thought was a Smittybilt rock slider that used 3 tubes. The top two tubes were parallel to the ground and had step plates at all 4 doors creating a step. At 4wd.com is a picture of Side Armor by Smittybilt. It might stick out too far and hit your leg when getting in or out. Anyone have this style??

I have the ones you are describing. I have not had a chance to see how they hold up on rocks but I was in the same boat you are in. I needed both protection and a step. This solves both of those problems. They are pretty heavy. I installed them myself but I had to use a floor jack to hold them in place. The installation should have been easy but... One of the bold holes were not drilled exactly right and I had to drill it out a little bit at a time until it could be slid on. The only other problem was the front bolt locations. While ratcheting it gets tight. The bolt is too close to the side IMHO. As is gets tighter, the socket kept getting stuck.

I manged the install and the one that did not require drilling only took about 10 min by myself. I would do it again, and they serve the purpose as a step very well. It should take longer to unwrap the packaging and do an inventory than to do the actual install itself.

I do not have any pics right now but I hope this helps.

east tn 1st jeep, How tall are you? I have a 3" OME lift coming along with 34" tires. I won't need the step, but my wife will. I'm wondering if I would hit my leg everytime I get in.

I am 5'9''. The lift is not on so right now for some reason, I never use the step.....yet. My wife loves it however. She is 5'5'' so even at stock height, she needs some lift. The only time I hit my leg is getting out. That is only because they are so new, I forget they are there. The only problem is when I am getting out dressed for work and it is nasty outside. I have gotten flith on my slacks a couple of times. This is my fault and not the steps. I just get in a hurry and forget.

They are also useful when removing the top or washing the top. Before the steps it took a ladder.

I also have them and although they do stick out...they help cut down on the crap being thrown up from the tires..and my wife loves them as she is 5'2"...They do look the part as well and as with everyone else same problem on install I welded up and re-drilled the front hole and made a hole and patch on the side to so I could torque down..no way socket would fit ..but very solid.

Is it just the angle of the photo, or do those cost you a little ground clearance? It looks like they hang down a few inches.
