Snorkel advice.....
By the time your air intake needs to be watertight, you need to have a sealed engine and ignition sytem.... there's a lot more to fording water hood deep, than just a snorkel....
Considering this myself, others should chime in soon...

Unlike "cold air intakes", snorkels do actually pull cool air from outside the engine bay.
I would imagine that benefit is canceled by having to pull the air through a much longer intake duct.

Well, I was a lot less worried about fording this creek this past Friday than those not running a snorkel! (I think that's why they sent me first, LOL). Dyno testing does seem to suggest that you will pay a penalty in lost horsepower, however (search YouTube for RIPP videos on this) ...

Oh, since it was hinted at, let me add some other things I've done for river fording ...
- The stock TIPM is actually water sealed--at least from the top. However, I had an offroad shop put in lockers for me and they cut the side of the cover. I replaced it with a new one (thanks, Ronjenx for the help finding that!). The sPOD is NOT water sealed, but thus far that has not seemed to be a problem.
- Extended the breather lines to the engine air filter box.
- Wired all of my aftermarket wiring to use WeatherPack connectors.
- Selected lights which are sealed against water entry (we had a couple become goldfish bowls on other rigs after this fording).
- I added an engine fan off switch so I can override the fan and force it off during fordings.
The main advantage to having a snorkel is not to drive thru a lake but to avoid hydro lock in the case of an accident. I've seen a lot of guys accidentally fall into a deep hole. It's not going to protect your ignition system and computer but at least you saved the engine. If you play in water get a snorkel if you don't then they are just for looks.
Got mine for insurance. Hate to f$&k up a supercharger and motor because of a silly splash or spill. Keeps my manifold temps slightly cooler too.
In fact i had to cut my last wheeling trip short because of a flooded creek. A few of us had to turn back and go home.

agreed i love mine out here, i feel bad for the people 4 or more people back in line on some of the dry days... Had mine on for about a year and my intake filter looks brand new yet.
Before I moved to NC, we were in NJ and our playground was the NJ Pine Barrens. Almost all of us ran snorkels.. if you were smart, you didn't need it..but it was a bigger Peace of Mind after I got it. I run the River Raider Exp Snorkel..most of the other guys ran the AEV..prob 4-1 if not more. AEV 30 min install, River Radier 4-6 hrs. Let me know if you want any pics or other info.
