Default Snow plow

Ok my friend just bought an Arctic unlimited. He wants to put a plow on. He has a pretty long driveway with a steep incline. What are the best choices for him. By the way money for him is no problem. Thanks.

Tell him not to do it. Buy a beater 4x4 truck and put a plow in it if money's not a problem.

Several guys use their Rubicons for plowing. There's a couple threads if you use the SEARCH feature. They discuss which ones to use and not and why.

Go to plowsite.com for more information but your friend is looking at 4K for a new plow. Plenty of beater plow trucks to be had for that money. There are much cheaper versions available that go in your receiver hitch to drag the snow. You can find all the info you need on plowsite.

^^Yup agree with all these posts.

As a long time snow plough guy I've driven my share of 1 ton 4X4 Trucks that are built for this abuse....heck even the 200HP 25' airport plows we drive take a beating.

Not saying the JK can't do it, IMO it's the wrong tool for the job.

Sounds like a great excuse for a 'Project / Plow Jeep' to me

Thanks guys. He doesn't care that its a brand new jeep. He told me he only bought it to plow. I said let's lift this thing. I figured I could have fun using his money. He told me o no way this ident for offroad. WTF. he has Ferraris and crazy cars. So what ever I am just trying to get him the best plow for the jeep.

I plowed for a couple years with a YJ. It was great for tight spots and parking lots with a lot of obstacles but even with just a 6 1/2 foot Meyers plow I used up a second gear & synchro gear in short time. I made a ton of money in two seasons but put half a ton back into a tranny rebuild. I agree with others that its very hard on light duty components. If he insists, look for a poly mold board, add airbags to help with spring sag and stick to plowing downhill if the incline is too steep. I have a Ram 3500 with a Cummins and plow prep and I still don't use it to plow. I have a 400 Arctic Cat 4x4 I plow my 350' driveway with. Best money I ever spent.

If he's dead set in using the JK to plow with, tell him to upgrade to the Rubicon for the D44 front axle and lockers. It's really what is needed over the D30 open front.

If money is no object he should choose the plow with the best LOCAL dealer support. Plows can-and will- break during a snowstorm. The best plow is the one with best dealer support. I use Western Plows. They are great plows and my dealer stays open for parts and service 24 hrs a day during snow events.

The Western and Myers for the JK are the same exact plow but different colors.
Snow Dogg is good
Boss plows are nice
Blizzard Plows have mixed reviews

Get some AirLift airbags for the front and he will need ballast in the rear

I call Shananagins. Anybody with money hires a service to plow their driveways. Even without money, it pencils out....one could afford 20 years of service for what a Rubi plus plow would cost. Give us a break, either you or your buddy is a fool.
