Default So budget boosts are illegal in MI?

I am going over my list of things to do to ye olde JK and doing a bit of research let me to this.

Let me quote:

(4) Notwithstanding subsection (2), a person shall not operate a motor vehicle having lift blocks between the front axle and springs, or with lift blocks that exceed 4 inches in height between the rear axle and springs in addition to those provided by the original manufacturer. Any body lift block shall be of single piece construction and shall not use more than a 3-inch spacer. Any suspension lift block shall use an alignment pin between the axle and the spring, and shall be of single piece construction. Spring shackle replacements shall not exceed the original equipment manufacture length by more than 2 inches, and coil spring spacers are prohibited. All steering components shall be geometrically arranged to function as original equipment manufacture. Welded pitman arms, drag links, and tie rods are prohibited. All parts used to modify the original suspension or height of a motor vehicle shall be factory manufactured and shall meet or exceed the original manufacturer's specifications.
Am I interpreting this right? Does anybody know of any addendums or updates to this law?

"coil spring spacers are prohibited" I would take this to mean the old style that would go between the empty spaces in a coil spring as that was a type of lifting years ago.

Honestly I don't know for sure, but if that's the case I could see me on the side of the road saying

"Officer it's not a spacer ..... it's a fitment washer, doughnut type a whatchamacolit dealy whopper "

Sounds like its ok to me. Cant have a lift block between the spring and the axle. Our lift blocks typically go between the body and the spring. Parts shall be factory manufactured (did not say which factory) and shall meet or exceed OEM specs. So it can not be home made!

LOL, I'm sure the manufactures of the Budget boosts would fall off there chairs if the designs they made were illegal. I think this is refering to the old style as stated above.

There are only 2 interpretations that matter:

1. The Law Enforcement Officer that looks/notices it.

2. The judge that it goes in front of.

All of us think that it means the spacers between the coils, but that is not what it says. And interpretation comes from the words. It would be hard to argue that the things you bought that were called "spacers", really are not "coil spacers".

That said, I don't think you would ever get ticketed for this, and if you did, it would be a 1 in a million chance to find a cop that knew the language well enough, and your rig would need to "look" really unsafe. Most of the language is written for leaf spring lifts and is trying to avoid the 2"x10" homemade wood spacers (hillbilly lift) from splitting or sliding out.

That's the whole idea. Use different terminology to describe the spa.... I mean the anti-rake device

Yeah - the lift blocks were used to lift leaf sprung rigs, and the blocks would pop out and crash the suspension, etc.

The old coil spacers were like rubber hand squeezer shaped things that you'd stuff between the coils themselves to prevent the coil from compressing in that spot...same deal, they would pop out, etc.

A Budget Boost is not the same type of thing...it IS a coil spacer, but NOT the one they mean....its just an old word with a new meaning...and the new meaning is the one we mean, the old is what the OLD law meant.
