Anyone have a good review of this winch? I'd really like a powerplant, but I can't seem to justify spending 1,200 bucks.

sams offroad in tulsa has a ramsey rep 9500 fot 547.00 with free shipping i also saw a superwinch ei9000 on 4wd.com for 599 plus shipping. i myself think warns just an expensive name ramsey has the same warranty for half the price and they r made in america right in tulsa so warranty and parts are common

FINALLY....A voice or reason...I have been saying this forever as well as the Warn M8000, it can be had for sub $600. But, that Ramsey is a hard deal to beat.

I have had the Smittybilt on my jeep for about 2 months now and have used it a couple of times. It works well and has pulled others out with no problems. I haven't had to pull myself out yet (knock on wood), but I pulled out a large blazer that was stuck in some deep sand the other day. I used a snatch block and the winch pulled them up a significant grade and out of the sand with no problem.

I am a bit disappointed in one thing...rust. The small cap bolts on the gear cover are rusting, as are the larger bolts holding the rods over the spool. I can also see rust in the small hole on the side of the spool leading into the gear compartment. I will try to get a pic and post it up soon.

I guess you get what you pay for...

A snatch block will help no matter who makes the winch or where it was made.
Its all about the mechanical advantage.

As stated, a snatch block always helps no matter the winch. It effectively doubles the pulling power. I used it on the Blazer I pulled out because of the large load and the incline I was pulling him up. The winch worked like a champ and had no problems. I do not know how it would have done without it because I didn't even try.

I did not use the snatch block on any of my other pulls, and the winch worked just fine. I would say it works as well as any other 8000 lb winch.
