So i just herculined...
OK..i just got done for the day applying herculiner to my 2 door X..
what a pain in the a** it was..
i know alot of you have already done this(i've read the write ups) but i need to ask a few questions..it's to late to change anything because the 2nd coat is already drying, but here it goes..
1) There seems to be alot of tape and caulk over seams. did you guys sand that down in the prep or just paint over it?
2) i couldn't get the seats out!! i broke the head off a black & decker impact drill..snapped right off trying to get the bolts off..so i just took a small brush and pained around it..
3) did anyone need more then 2 coast?
4) it stinks!!! is that cause it's fresh? and will get better once it cures??
5) how does it hold up in heat and direct light?

as usual thanks for all the help and advice..

Steve...
I left the seats in my unlimited when i herculined the tub... personally i was too lazy to try to take them out.
so far, in the heat, sunshine and all around crap i have thrown on the treated (2 coats) floor, i have had no problems. i even cleaned out the garage at my grandparents house... threw all kinds of things on to the treated floor and have no evidence of the mistreatment!
as for the smell, it goes away. give it a few days to fully cure, apparently the more humid it is the faster it cures, once it does you wont smell a thing and will be happy you put the effort in

Don't feel bad I've had to remove the JK seats several times now at work and the fronts are especially gummed up with blue loctite. It took my Snap On 1/2 inch impact to bust them free...
Those seats are a PITA! I had to use a torque-wrench at 75lbs of pressure and that barely worked! The smell will linger for a week or two but will be better after that. All I needed was two coats, and it has held up well. I am going to go back and touch up some "high traffic" areas. Just get used to driving with those windows down!
that was sorta my feeling..very expensive. did you all do 2 coats? my looks pretty good and i'm afraid a 2nd coat will make it too thick and goopy? how long can i wait between coats? the instruction say 24 hours..true?

After the first coat has been applied to the truck bed and tailgate, allow HERCULINER to set up (approximately 1-4 hours or when it is no longer
tacky - slightly longer for red and gray HERCULINER). Make sure to apply the second coat within 24 hours of the first coat application. Otherwise
you will need to clean and scuff the first coat prior to applying the second coat. NOTE: TWO COATS OF HERCULINER ARE REQUIRED FOR ADEQUATE
COVERAGE. (FAILURE TO APPLY TWO COMPLETE UNIFORM COATS WILL COMPROMISE THE DURABILITY AND REDUCE THE LONGEVITY OF THE
HERCULINER TRUCK BED COATING). Use new roller to apply second coat.
to get the seats out i was able to use a 1/2 drive i think it was 16 or 18 in breaker bar. that worked just fine for me. was able to use it on every bolt in there. just have to angle it a little bit for some of the rear seat bolts. i did everything by hand, no power or phnumatic tools. i love it have had it in for 3 months now
I just finished herculining my jeep and think that it is gonna turn out pretty good. I was able to get everything out except the console (due to the transfer case shifter knob not coming off after trying damn near everything). Should have everything back together tomorrow after work. I would highly recommend doing this yourself instead of paying someone else. Total invested is less than $100 thanks to the rebate that I got or will get.
