Default Soft 8's

Is it really that big of a deal to run soft 8's instead of a rock crawler rim? Does any one have any stories about the soft 8's failing them and resulting in damage or a long walk? I keep hearing about the 8's not being as strong.

I love the look but have a hard time with paying 40-50 dollars more per rim. Don't see the reason behind the cost. Sometimes I think the shops are just bass fishing with a new lure seeing if well bite. Are there real tests out there to prove the fact that a soft 8 is a weaker rim or are we being played for suckers and beliving what is being said?

That's funny, I always though steel was stronger, plus you can bang our the rim if you bend it a little.

Only problem I ever had with soft 8's was when I ordered 5 of them for my TJ, one of them had a bad weld that leaked air. Racked my brain for a while trying to figure out where the leak was coming from, but quadratec replaced it free of shipping charges.

Just my 2 cents, I'm not really big on steel rims for the fact that the will rust. It's just a matter of time before they look dumpy. To each his own. I will say I was happy with my soft 8's until the paint started scratching.
