Default Spacer for pro comp wheel

Hi guys,

My dealer tried to install my pro comp wheel series 8179 along with tire P255 75R17 and I was told that I need spacer in order to fit those wheels since the brake center diameter is smaller then the wheel hub diameter. I contacted pro comp representative and they told me I dont need spacer !!!

Who is right here since my dealer wont install the wheels cos they are saying there a risk of losing a wheel because of the mismatch mentionned above.

Anyone has an opinion on this and if I need spacer where can I find those ?

Francois

I think your dealer is smoking a little of the funny stuff . There are a bunch of members on here running the 8179's. I have not read any problems with them, especially with 17's. Then again I don't have them (but am looking at getting them). I will be interested in the replies from those who have them.

Are they trying to tell you that the 17" rim won't clear the calipers? The only time that's been a problem is on some of the 15's.

what my dealer told me is that since the center of the wheel is larger than the disc hub they would have a hard time to center the wheel properly and also they are saying there is a risk of losing a wheel since the center of the wheel doesnt fit completely with the disk hub.

I talked to a wheel dealer from my town and apparently the above situation is common and it is just a matter of making sure that the wheel is properly center. So I will go to that wheel dealer and will know who is right here.

As I understand it, the procomp wheels are not hub centric but they are lug centric. Mine work perfectly. No spacers needed..

Im sure its a liabilty issue because they arent hub-centric. They will work, but the dealer wants to add a hub-centric spacer to cover their ass.

Just to let know guys that my pro comp wheel 8179 were installed yesterday by a tire dealer with no problem at all as pointed out by members of this forum.

So bottom line is chrysler dealer sux......

Thanks for all the posting guys, jeep community rules....

P.S. My jeep rocks with those new wheels and a set of silent armor tires which are the way to go for winter time.

Wow, I was just looking at getting the 8179's, i didn't realize they were so popular. Almost makes me want to look into something else now just to be different

So where is the best price on 8179's?

I saw the 8179's in the 17" had a 4.75" back spacing which i thought was a good thing in conjunction with 33's (285/75R17)
