Default Spacer Saftey

Hey yall,
I have a set of 33 nitto terras on the stock STEEL wheels.. i actually have grown really fond of them and think they look great and love the size... now heres the problem... i got them from discount tire and they will rotate them for free whenever i want with free flat repair ect. but they wont touch them if they have a set of spacers.... for those of yall that run the spacers are there any safety concerns? they told me they are really dangerous?

What kind of spacers do you have? If it's the wedge type w/o new studs, then yes, those are quite dangerous. If it's the Spidertrax type that bolt to your hubs, then not so much.

Just had my 24k service @ the local dealership (including getting ripped off for brake service ). Not a peep out of them about my Spidertrax.

I had a wheel fall off in Moab last weekend, after re-torquing the wheels a couple of times. I would run lock tight on the inside and outside!

I've been running the RC 1.5" spacers for about 10K miles and have had no problems what so ever. It's really no different than running a wheel with more back spacing.

To be honest, wheels fall off a LOT. If you ask enough people, it has happened to them. I'd be more worried about the monkies rotating your tires and not tightening them, than the spacers. Spacers do not just make your vehicle "unsafe". It's like a loaded gun, not going to do any wrong unless the wrong hands mess with it.

Ran them all summer for 8K miles, they were still nicely torque when I removed them to change wheels. Didn't use lock tite. If the nuts can retain a wheel, no reason it could not retain a spacer ! (Hub centric ones with a set of separate studs).

The problem is most people use their impact gun and that's it. I say you should always check torque is to specification !!! (and even more so with spacers). On the JK, its 95lb/ft. Under torque them and it will loosen, over torque them and it will strech the studs, then loosen.

Yup...that about sums it up in my opinion.

Had a wheel fall off? Give more details then that my man. Many, MANY guys are running Spidertrax, or Teraflex spacers without ZERO issues. I've had mine on for over a year now, no problems...you know why? Because I take care of them. I didn't blast the lugs on with an impact gun, I torque them appropriately, and I didn't use a ton of loctite either, just a drop per stud, thats it.
Stick with the name brands, follow their directions and you'll be fine.
Remember that you need at least 1.5" spacers.
Local tire shop had no problems mounting my rubbers at all. They don't recommend them, and would never install them simply because they add more maintenence and possible liability should the individual not take care to check on them after awhile.
