Default spare tire

I just ordered my new tires and they are 35" procomps. Just wondering if putting a 35 on the spare tire holder would hurt the tail gate at all. thanks fellas

We ran for months with one on our tailgate without an issue I do know some people have had fit issues based on bs of the wheel and others had fit problems with them hitting the oem bumpers. We had neither of those issues but we have km2's which aren't as tall as the Goodyear and Toyo's. Also, they are lighter so that might be a factor as well.

You might want to indicate the model of Procomp 35's (for instance mud vs at) as well as the bs on your wheels so people can chime in if they have a similar setup.

Some people say go for it. However, in the long run... you WILL damage your tailgate. Take a look at these threads:

That's the first two results I found using the search function. Using it and browsing through the results will answer your question or at least help you arrive at a decision. Cheerio!

Ran a spacer for about 3 months. Now it wasn't great but was a good stop gap until I got the tire carrier.

I bought a new rear bumper/tire carrier so when I go to a larger tire/wheel, I won't have to worry about anything. The other reason I went this route is because I want to convert my tailgate to fold down.

Default 35 x 12.5 MTZ on tailgate

6 months ago I nstalled the lift & 35's including a full size spare.
I removed the spare tire mounting bracket and shimmed it with washers totalling approx 1/2" of shim. Using longer bolts and lock-washers this has held-up well for me and even allows the HMCT to pass inspection.
I am using stock Rubicon OEM wheels.

It will eventually cause damage to the tailgate. Driving style and how often you off road has a lot to do with it, and different tires have different weights. It will wear out sooner or later. There are already many threads on this topic with more detailed information.

Backspacing has minimal impact compared to wheel weight. Read the innumerable threads on this subject and decide for yourself based on your tolerance for risk.

I wonder if anyone has ever welded some type of support bar to a drop hitch to support the spare, should be a cheap fix until a spare tire carrier is added
