Default Spray on liner over chipped owder coat?

I need to touch up some rock rash on my rear bumper. The powder coat chipped off. I scrapped of most of the rust down to the steel.

Will self etching primer fill in the gaps where the powder coat has flaked off to the bare steel? Even if I rattle can the whole thing, you're gonna see where it flaked and you'll see a contour difference.

Thanks
Steve

The bed liner will fill the gaps, only problem is you are going to want to paint the entire bumper to make it match. You will be very satisfied after you do so. I would use duplicolor bed liner in the can ( or buy the spray gun kit-I did and works great). Hope this helps!

Yep...gonna need to do whole thing. But goo to know the spray on will fill in the divot. I was thinking about linex but I really think I could find better ways to spend te money on things that will get scrapped up again. Got good feedback from others here.

The good thing about rattle can is you can hit it again anytime. You might want to take the whole thing down to metal then you don't have to worry about rust from under the powder coat that is probably there.

I haven't had the first hand experience but I read on another thread that this guy did the duplicolor and he pretty much scraped the entire bumper on a tree and there was no damage. The liner did bot even budge. I haven't hit my bumpers yet so I wouldn't be able to tell you, but I believe it. This stuff is tuff! Good luck!

I just did exactly what you want to do with duplicolor.... Check out the thread... "my rear bumper story" and see how it turned out. I use a grinding wheel on all the rusted areas that were visible. Did a rough sanding down of the entire bumper than shot it with rust prohibiter than 2-3 coats of the bed coating rattle can. Have to say it looks brand new... Can't be happier. Hope this helps.
Cheers!!

If I remember correctly, Rustoleum makes a primer & filler for just the situation you're talking about. It comes in a spray can and is available at Lowes. I was going to use it on my bumper when it showed up from the mfg with chipped powder coat. I ended up going with brush-on Rustoleum Pro clean metal primer and flat black enamel because I didn't want to redo the whole bumper. It's been 6 months so far, and everything is still good.
