Anyone seen this? 2014 UR on 35's and min mods. Driving today and steering wheel turns right and left but tires take off in their own direction. Good news is that I was going slow and didn't hit anyone. Had to get a tow into the stealership and waiting for their call. Don't know what would have happened if I had bees driving 70mph down interstate....

 

One of two things I can think of.

First would be the sector shaft in the steering box.

Second would be the drag link.

Tire's take off in their own direction? Are saying they went rolling down the road? Lol. Or that each one was pointing out a different direction

 

Tie rod?

 

I assume the drag link. The stock linkage isn't super strong and a bad day wheeling can break it. Should be easy to tell when you look under.

 

I agree with Canvas. Assuming your tires weren't pointing different directions, seems like tie rod would be eliminated. I'd think a drag link failure would be obvious with a quick look, but still a possibilityl. I think more likely sector shaft/steering box related. As you noted, very lucky this was just at a low speed!

Here is the news, bolt broke in steering shaft and clock spring is shot. $665 for the repair..any thoughts?

 

Guessing your warranty has expired so that is not covered?? Is the steering shaft jacked up at all, or just needs a new bolt? Have you researched possibly replacing the clock spring yourself? Seems there are a couple detailed threads about doing so if you were up to it -

Something else is awry. The shaft is splined and squared so it's not something that will typically "break". The bolts have blue Loctite on them so they don't just back out and break.

There is more to the story.
