i know that this sounds stupid ..... but did you check for power steering fluid... could there have been a catastrophic leak? its also possible to get an air bubble in the line......Im no mechanic , but I have had these problems before

Taking the cap off and checking the fluid is ..... "going all rambo on it."

Can you still turn the wheels all the way both ways?
Or is it just hard to do so, but it will go all the way both ways?
Its simple to check the fluid, maybe it sprung a leak or something.
You can also check under the Jeep and make sure your steering stabilizer is still OK and were it should be.
Ive heard of them moving before and binding up the steering linkage.

Just a question, but why do you have 6" of lift to clear 35" tires?

Yep!
My stabilizer moved.
It sneaked in to fully compressed position.
Nice thing about 35" tires is that even a fatty like me can crawl down underneath without jacking it up and do inspections and such.

But I have to say the stabilizer moving didn't make it hard to turn.
I'm wondering if it's hard to trun on the street too?
I mean couldn't you just be deep in sand and going slow or stopped and so getting a lot of resistance to turning?

And I always recomend GOING RAMBO! regardless.

Good luck and enjoy the JEEP!

I remember reading a post awhile back about a guy blowing his steering pump by doing donuts on the beach with the steering wheel at full turn. Being at full turn for such a long time caused it to over heat and ruin the pump and seals... I think it was a few months ago and I cant find that thread
