Default Steering Stabilizer And Wide Tires

I have Nitto Terra Graplers in 325/60r18. I really like the tires, and my whole setup. And...If I were the only one who drives the JK there would be no problems.

However, my other half seems to think the JK is hard to control at highway speeds. (No, this is not another Death Wobble thread.) The worst part is she controls the checkbook...so I am sure you can understand my need to get this fixed.

I have done alot of reading about the subject BEFORE this post. It seems the general concensus around here, and correct me if I'm wrong, is that steering stablizer(s) just masks other problems.

I have never had any sort of DW. (Except the for snow stuck up inside my rim.) The best way to describe the problem is sort of a "darty" feeling. Like over 70MPH its hard to stay in the lane or even feels like you might get pulled over for a DUI. The worst part is trying to make an emergency stop at high speeds.

It does seem to have alot to do with the quality of the road, but that's something I obviously have no control over. I figure it has to do with the width of the tires. Like I said...it doesn't really bother me...but I'm hoping there might be some help on a solution.

Also, I am thinking next time I would like to go with 35"s. Do you think I should go with a skinnier tire?

Thanks in advance!

What your describing is related to the stock control arms more than anything IMHO. Longer control arms would help alleviate that issue. The SS does hust mask issues,

Are we talking uppers or lowers? Or both? Front or Rear? I see there are alot of options at www.northridge4x4.com.

thanks.

There's been alot of discussion lately about which CA's are most critical. It's always been my understanding that front lowers and rear uppers will get you what you need.

Lately, however, I've been reading that alot prefer front uppers. Something to do with the difference between pinion angle and castor. Someone more knowledgable will surely chime in.

I really just wanted to say that your rig is sweet.

thats the nature of the beast. Id try front lowers and rear uppers. After that ive heard great things about the AEV high steer correction kit. Mine is not my DD so it doesnt bother me enough to spend the money but eventually ill get them.

Yeah, you want to reset your caster (adjustable control arms.). As far as wide goes, if anything go wider. I was surprised at the added stability backspacing (either from spacers or different wheels) gave me.

Very happy. I don't know what lift you're running, but I have a 2.5" BB for now, and I barely rub. The tires rock in mud, wrap around rocks, and are pretty quiet on the freeway. I'd highly reccomend them.

I had the same problem after a 4inch skycrapper lift and 35" Toyo MT's. My wife hated to drive it because she didnt feel safe. I installed the Adjustable Lower Control Arms from TF and its about a 70% improvement. I'm very happy with them.
