So I was wrong, was able to drive a bit more today and still having the same problem. I'm back at the tire shop to get the tires balanced again. Not sure what to do if this doesn't work.

Word.. Don't be fooled there still could an underlying issues of a worn drag link, tie rod, track bar etc.. having the shimmy for the first time only means there could be more in the future if left unchecked..

I'm sure if you search the forum hard enough you can find more posts dealing with this and the Death wobble. We've been systemically going through a checklist of possible causes.. balancing, alignment check removal of the clips are all stage 1 issues or things one can do to start the isolation of the cause. Our 2008 jeep wrangler and 70K miles would suggest a few upgrades are needed..

Note: Even Though I suggested the alignment check.. You need to get with a shop that knows the shimmy and death wobble first hand.. cause after three shops check our alignment, they didn't find anything wrong.. So ask them to inspect the drag link ends, tie rod ends, track bar and even the ball joints.. One may need to upgrade, which we are slowly working on ourselves.

So it wound up being my tires out of balance. The tire shop had to match mount all 4 tires to get the vibration to go away but finally I can drive 50 without my steering wheel shaking. Guess this is a problem with duratracs since they have had the same problem a couple of times with the same tires. Thanks for the info.
