I have tried four different oil filters other than the Mopar and every one of them produced the cold start knock for me. AC Delco, Wix, Mobil 1, and Bosch… I finally said screw it and have stuck with the oem Mopar every since. I have 28,500 miles on my JK, and have never had a problem with the Mopar. Take it for what it’s worth, but the Mopar is less expensive than a couple of them I tried, and it works for me. I have never had a filter media issue with any of the Mopar filters I have used, and I change my oil religiously at 3k whether it is overkill or not, I could really care less…

I wish it was that easy for me. The Mopar one was the worst out of all the ones I've tried. I haven't tried that Ford one though...

there is a TSB for leaky timing chain? the front of my engine is oil damp... did they send out this TSB or did you just bring it in?

Any lack of oil pressure will cause the oil light to come on and the ding to sound. If you turn the key to run position and let all the lights stop blinking, then turn it on. Try it with a Mobil 1, your oil light will come back on for a second, maybe longer if the pressure remains low for a while.

It seem the Mobile 1 is one of (if not the) worst offenders for this. I know when I tried to use one it was obnoxious. I've had good luck with the Mopar filters, though if I let the Jeep sit a few days even it will do it, but the Jeep gets driven regularly enough for it not to be a major concern.

So what you are saying is that on each of those filters, while the engine is sitting, all the oil leaks out of them and back into the oil pan leaving nothing in the filter at start up? You have some other issue at play here. Instead of starting your engine when you suspect the oil has run out of your filter, try removing the filter. I guarantee you will have oil running everywhere. I don't even get a knock when I change the oil and have a true dry start. There is a momentary flash of the oil light and everything runs fine. If a dry start produced knocks then every oil change would damage your engine. If you are removing your filter and it barely has oil in it, you have a problem that is unrelated to the filter and should get it checked immediately.
