And my own installation details within that same thread:

And here is what the finished product looked like!

Thanks. That looks damn good.

Default winch plate

hey i have a brand new aries winch plate in my garage i will sell someone for 45.00$ it mounts to the frame then you just have to trim the top of bumper for the winch. there is a thread on here about them but i can`t find. the reason i didn`t use was i had ordered an olympic winch plate also and was told it was on backorder so i cancelled (so i thought) and ordered the aries they both came in the same day so i used the oylmpic one.

Is there a winch mount you can buy to mount a winch to the stock JK bumper?
Check out this thread. It gives great detail on how to make a stubby out of your stock bumper and how to install the winch plate. Read to the bottom of page 1 and you will see an ebay item number for a winch plate made specifically for the JK. It's $99 plus shipping and does not require any drilling/cutting since it's made for the JK.

The stubby process is rather straight forward and easy; just remember not to cut off the integrated nuts that hold the plastic cover to the bumper (taping the outline took the longest due to the angles in the plastic; remember to tape straight and NOT follow the angles of the molded plastic).

I did mine (before buying a new bumper). The only thing I did different was NOT using the rivots. I simpy took a soldering torch with a chisel head and melted the plastic back together for a cleaner look (easier than the rivots too)!

Hope this helps. You can get the winch plate and make the simple mods without fabing a stubby if you prefer.

Here is my setup. I went the TJ mount route. I have since swapped out the cable with rope.
