Default Stock SR/A vs. Duratrac

I need new tires and want to keep the stock 255/75-17 size. I could go 255/80-17 if someone talked me into it (Worse mileage? speedo accuracy?)

I am happy with the SR/A comfort / road noise. How do the Duratracs compare? I'm a highway/town driver.

I switched to 285/70 - 17. I feel the duratracs have a lot more traction, especially in the wet than my stock SRAs. But there is a lot more road noise. Not as bad as a mud tire, but more than a less aggressive all terrain.

My Sr-A came off with less than 1000kms on my Jeep. Took one little ride up a dirt road and had two punctures. The same result with the SR-As on my patriot. Had a crap load of punctures with those too. Best thing you can do is get a nice AT tire. I am running BFG's on my Wrangler, and a new Kumho that's being released soon is going on my patriot.

I am running 285/70/17 using a superchips flashcal. I get within 1-2mpg of my 265 light snow tires. So really going to a 33, with calibration done is not that big of a difference.

I love Duratracs. They are a really great tire.
Awesome in the snow and in the wet, tread life is also really good compared to a similar spec compound tire.

I run MTR's on my Jeep and Duratracs on my truck.

Stopped by my Tire place today... I asked about Duratrac and Silentarmors....

They said...

1 Silent armor in the country
14 Duratracs in the country

They are a Firestone shop and said they'd go for the Destination AT.

Thoughts?

I've had 3 sets of Duratracs (Xterra, Grand Cherokee and now JK) + countless other popular tires. Duratracs are by far my favorite daily driver tire.

I had a hard time finding the duratracs in the size I wanted, so I went with the BFG KO2s and love them. Quite ride and great in the rain. Hopefully it'll Cool off and we'll get some snow.

I've heard nothing but the absolute best about those, but they don't come in either of the sizes I mentioned.

I just got 285 Duratracs on my stock 17's and love them. I got the LT's so I would have the most ply tire for strength. They were pricy. I notice a slight noise increase but not bad at all and I am willing to trade that for increased traction and aggressive look.

We use Destination ATs on our work trucks, they're actually pretty grippy tires and they have been wearing really well. They are a hard tire though and ride a bit rough. I find in the snow and ice it still leaves a bit to be desired.
