Default Stock tire carrier

Hi all.
I just bought 35" M/T Baja and 17x9 ProComp Xtreme 97 (steel).
Do I need a new tire carrier, or the original one can handle with the extra weight of the spare? Is there enough space for a bigger tire?

Thanks
Yaniv

Many have said that it'll handle a 35 and are running it that way. I am running a 35" Nitto Mud Grappler on mine right now, but just until Shrockworks finishes my tire carrier and rear bumper. My personal opinion is to do it just in the short term. There is allot of weight on my gate right now and offroad there is some movement that is just going to get worse.

Even if you mount it to the stock carrier you'll probably need a spacer like Teraflex sells. Some people also use wheel spacers. Teraflex's spacer is $30.

Exactly.

It seems sort of hit or miss on this issue.

I for one have had a 35" MT Baja MTZ on a 17 pro comp alloy on my stock tailgate holder for 16,000 miles w/o any issue at all.

One of the reasons youll get different answers from everybody is it really depends on the offset of you wheel as to whether or not it will contact your bumper.
Also, 35 inch tires are different heights, and are rarely 35 inches.
The weight has not been an issue, though the spare carrier is plastic.
The only way to really find out, unless you wnt to do a bunch of math, is to put it on and see.
There are many spacers available: some only space evenly, some space it out at an angle, so the bottom doesnt hit, and some raise the whole tire up. I had a custom one made, because I am running a 6 lug wheel. it raises the entire thing up around 3 inches.

Here is what it looks like..with a 36 inch tire.

you also have the option of raising up your brake light, but i left it, so it wouldnt obstruct my view. it just glows behind the tire.

Hope this helps.
