I stubbed mine by 7" on each side. The hardest part is making that first cut, because there is no turning back and you are committed. I also, hollowed it out and used exploding back pop rivots. Still need to address the seam and finish; but all in good time.

do any of you guys have any pics or advice/instructions on this?i would really rather do it myself than buy the caps

I'll sell you mine real cheap. Steel RC end caps, Lightbar, and Sahara black insert all included. Cracks around caps caulked and entire thing sprayed with Bedliner.

i like it but doubt we are close enough for it to be worth it,im in fairhope alabama

When I stubbied mine I had already dented one of the covers over the crush cans. I used some of the material I cut off to make removable covers that I can take off and straighten "when" they get dented again. I've gotten lots of compliments on how it looks. I reused the ends too, but fastened them with hex head lag screws. Click image for larger version

No you don't, just did mine and it takes an hour. once you take it off and look at it, it is quite easy,
measure one inch from the bumper bulge, where the crush cans are, towards the out side and make a mark,
measure 9 " from that and make a mark,
cut the two lines and attach the end piece left to the 1" you left behind, the end cap will slip in behind the 1" left
add a bit of silicone and put some rivets in it
done
