Default Supercharged at elevation, engine temps?

Hello Everyone. Just wanting to get some responses from those much more experienced with this than I.

Supercharged 2012 JKU Arctic. Just replaced all of the pulleys, serpentine belt, refilled lost coolant, purged the system of air.

I am not happy with the temps I see, but I'm aware these engines run hotter. I have the Carobotor Dash and Radio so I see actual numbers regarding temps. Coolant and Oil temp routinely hit 226-230.

The other gauge shows the coolant temp at halfway and it never goes above, but that's anywhere from 200-230+ degrees, huge range. It's all stop and go horrible traffic, but it's also 30 degrees outside.

Once the temp hits 226, I'm assuming the fan comes on as the temps get down to 214-216 or so.

Does this seem normal given I'm over a mile above sea level, 35s, front/rear steel bumpers, heavy swing out tire carrier, supercharged, no airflow? I'm just scared to overheat, I hate it. I'm going to take the grille inserts out soon to open it up. Maybe a vented hood from DV8.

I wouldn’t sweat those temps at all. I’m a mile above sea level as well and have 37’s with beadlocks (~125 lbs per corner), armor, etc… and my temps hit 225-230 all the time. During summer I routinely hit 240. I don’t have forced induction though.

Some things to consider, you did point out grill inserts. Definitely take those out. Is there a light bar or winch covering your grille? Do you have an intercooler in front of your radiator? Is your radiator clean?

I’ve heard opposing views on vented hoods and center fender liners. Some people say to vent everything so hot air can escape. I’ve also heard that you don’t want those vents because it reduces the effect of the radiator fan. If you bent air from your engine bay then you increase the air pressure in your engine bay closer to what the outside air pressure is. That can be a bad thing because you want the engine bay to be at a lesser pressure than the outside because the radiator fan will draw more cool air in through the radiator that way and push more cool air through the engine bay. I’m not sold on either point of view here though since I’m not an expert in that arena and cannot speak logically to it since I believe it requires a decent understanding of fluid/thermal dynamics.

Either way, check your airflow through your grille and don’t sweat 230 or even 235. Once my temps hit 240-243, I lay off the gas and baby the Jeep a bit.

your elevation is just about identical to mine, nice. Good to know you see those temps, mine seem to hit 230 232 then get down to 212/216, up down up down. The radiator is clean and there is an intercooler. No light bar, but yes to the ridiculous grill inserts. I ordered a new grill actually, one with much more open space. I do have a winch and bumper but luckily they don't really cover the grill at all. I have vented fender liners up front as well. I think I'm going to have the coolant properly flushed soon as well to see if that helps. Everything looks new/clean. I've just never seen those temps without there being an issue. In my other vehicles that high is a cause for concern somehow haha I'm worried about summer temps because like you, it hits 100 here regularly lately. If I'm seeing 230 when it's 30 degrees out....what'll happen in traffic at 100+

I will get this under control somehow!

I don’t necessarily think you have a problem. My Jeep will also get to 230 pretty easily and it’s 30-50 degrees where I’m at right now. These engines are designed to run hot.
