Can't say enough good about Ripp. Been running it ( with MBRP cat back) daily for about 10k miles with 0 issues. It's no " sports car" but improved drivability and fun factor. Only draw back is the switch to premium fuel... But you gotta pay to play!

( currently running 31s and 3.73s, moving to 35s and 4.88s as soon as I get time to install them)

I keep hearing stories that the 3.8 cant handle boost through the bottom end. JP magazine just printed that. But i see this and hear from hundreds if not thousands of ripp owners going strong. Two cases of failures i read about were dry crank from low oil. I think the 3.8 is good motor but just needs help on power.

Second, consider the type of off-roading you will be doing before regarering. I run 4:88s here in ohio and it suits my needs well. Also, 4:56 will return your RPM's to stock running 35's. I didn't buy headers because the exhaust manifolds are essentialy unrestricted as the leave the enging. Increasing pipe size will get you the same thing essentially and is way cheaper. It also helps to have a good CAT Back exhaust also. RIPP comes complete with a Diablo Tuner. Pretty easy to use. Good luck in what ever way you choose to go...
Your theory is way off on what a good set of headers actually does, while they do increase flow their main benefit to making efficient power is scavenging. increasing pipe size does absolutely NOT accomplish the same thing, it will actually lower bottom end torque. Bigger isn't always better.

Just FYI.

I think the 07s had alot of issues with failures from poor oiling and kind of gave the 3.8 a worse rep than it deserves.

I run more boost than a stock kit and havent had any issues with the motor. Still runs like a champ.

The funny thing is that the article the month before featured the Magnuson Supercharger and there was no mention of that as a downside.

Just a general question. With a SC, you have to run 91 octane right? What happens if you don't (say its not available)?

I read that article too. Maybe it has to do with the boost. RIPP Superchargers advertise the maximum hp gain at 8 psi.

The 3.8L with a Magnuson supercharger produces its maximum hp with only 5 psi at 5200 rpm and the torque curve peaks out between 2500 rpm and 4500 rpm at only 4 psi.
