Default Superchips!

My Jeep has 26k on it currently, and for the longest time, i was battling pinging, probably since 12k off and on. I've been to the dealer half a dozen times trying to solve the issue and always have been told "some pinging is normal" . it was usually at low RPM's besides one trip up to the mountains in NH where it pinged all over the tachometer. not related to the pinging, i upgraded my exhaust to a banks a while ago, put in an intake I made to get a little bit more airflow, and though it definitely sounded and felt better, it still needed more nuts . Put it off for a while, and just got the SC flashpaq. plugged in to find my tires were set to 30" or so. changed that since im running 32"s. adjusted the pedal response to "superchips" love that extra sensitivity. running 89 octane so I decided to put it on the 87 tune. NO ping at 2-3k RPMS like i had heard periodically. got it on the interstate, and heard pinging at 3500-4000 rpms. This had never happened before, not that high. didnt surprise me since i had read a lot of threads about this issue prior to even making the purchase. When I ordered my superchips, i also had ordered a banks ram air intake, to replace the homebrew one i had installed. I figured the Banks may help, having a semi enclosed box for the filter and a plastic tube to help keep the air cooler. running the same exact tune, i hear no pinging AT ALL and above 3k rpms my engine REALLY wakes up and feels so much more powerful than before. Now that I'm running a Banks exhaust, CAI and superchips i have to say im fairly impressed given what the 3.8L's rep is. I know 89 octane will help with pinging but i at least heard SOME ping with 89 octane using the stock tune. this is the closest ive been to a healthy sounding and feeling engine. I've never had the oil consumption problem (latest calculations i have put me at about 1 qt. every 2k miles, which is decent for these motors, IMO.), but ive always had some light pinging that pissed me off until now. may try 87 octane next time, or the 91oct/91 tune combo. When I mash that pedal it finally does something!
