Yea, unfortunately the load rating on the hard top is only around 100lbs.

Wow! That is low. Where is that number posted? You would think it could handle more than that as heavy as it is, but I guess that you're right :-(

Think its possible to put a yakima snowboard/ski rack after taking the safari rack off leaving just the loading bars?

Just use a lower basket or even just cross bars! You can buy the bars by themselfs.
