Thanks, Kojack! This certainly helps. This might be an uphill battle since I had this done in late 2013. Had it been warmer out and I thought to wash my Jeep and start tinkering again, I might have caught this in < 1 year. We'll see. Such a GIANT pain in the ass to first drive to the shop for them to inspect (not very close), remove all these components at home, bring there, go pick up, then install again at home. Plus I have new wheels/tires/lift in the mail... last thing I want is to wait a few more weeks for this process to be completed! But, better in the long run.
So besides basically grinding the rust off- do you have any thoughts about what might be used to clean this up? There are a couple of ways, I use sand blasting and get it all clean. Then wipe it down with a contact cleaner. I get a special cleaner from the distributor of my powder equipment. |

I would give por 15 a try. see how it works.

That is a shit job! I've powercoated suspension parts, not washed them and never rusted, AND lived and drove on Nebraska roads.

As many spots and bad areas on that I'd take it off and have it re done at a different shop. Have it sandblasted, cleaned and re coated.

Good news. The powder coat shop will be doing the re-work at no charge. They said they had a material defect around the time I brought them in, but didn't know it until later. They discontinued that material and are now using an apparently better one. Now comes the fun of removing the bumper, skid plate, fairlead and pump mount... then reinstalling a couple days later.
|
Well that's their story and sticking to it......so they formulate the product...or are they saying the material manufacturer they buy from made huge batches of garbage.
Oh great they'll re-apply after you do all the work. They can do that for you. It's not their supplier problem. |

I did ask if they'd help me with removing them off my jeep. But seriously- thanks for all the replies. When they asked for pics, I gave them a link to this thread. I'm sure everyone's feedback influenced their quick decision. They even committed to a 24 hr turn around, which is a huge improvement from my initial visit. |
