Default Surprise. Another Death Wobble Concern

Just put on 3" Fabtech Lift with new shocks and spring extensions. I did not get a chance to center the steering wheel yet though. Will do that tonight.

On highway at about 65mph and hit a big bump, Jeep went balistic and I pulled over. All seems well. Is it just the steering wheel off center pissing the computer off?

I assume this to be the case, but wanted to be sure before on the highway again.

Thanks in advance.

Big bump at 65 MPH That sounds scary even without DW.

Did you align your JK after installing the lift? Pay particular attention to the Caster.

Other things to check include wheel balance and looseness in any joint of the front suspension and steering components.

You need adj. front lower arms, and a Caster of about 5 deg.

Check the trac bar the 2 bolts have to be at 130 ft

Also, you will have to recenter your axle

Be sure that the trac bar has been tightened when the Jeep is on the ground.

are you running bigger tires or factory?? i fought the battle with death wobble for a year. Finally fixed it by bumping up the castor and upgrading to a bigger tire which helps offset the castor as well

The steering wheel being off-center should be noticeable when you turn, but caster being off is the likely cause of the handling over bumps.

3" coil spacers with cams, correct? As the others have suggested, could be that you just need to adjust the cams some more...

Browse this one, if you haven't already.

It talks about setting caster with adjustable arms, but should be a similar process with the cams. And you might check your toe while you're out there.

Cam bolts is a joke. It's not enough to increase the caster. With cam bolts you will increase of only 1/4 deg.

So is it more likely that the cams were not set correctly, or that the lift mfg designed it to drive like crap? My money says it is not adjusted correctly.

We all know that adjustables are preferable, but since he already has the cams installed, comments like that don't really help him diagnose his problem... (and I am assuming the kit in the pic is the one he has. He may not even have cams.)

OK. I should have clarified what I have. This is a used kit, and didnt have cam bolts. I left the origonal cam plates in. My fault as I am new to this. Is there any chance that fixing the steering wheel is going to help or am I dreaming? I really dont want to spend more money to fix this.

not likely. center it though. it's real easy to do. with 3" of lift, you probably would get enough adjustment with new adj upper arms. lowers are a little more money but you ensure plenty of adjustment if you decide to go taller later.
