Default Survey says?

I was thinking of putting this on my spare:

I like the idea of not taking myself (or anything, for that matter)too seriously. I wasn't sure how tied into Jeep history this guy is - I haven't seen a lot of references to Eugene, maybe its too old to even be a "jeep thing".

What do y'all think (not that it really matters, its either this or University of Illinois)?

Default Jeep Character

Well, after watching Mail Call about the history of the jeep, the most plausible theory they have as to where the name "jeep" came from is that character. It is from the Popeye cartoon and it could go over / through anything - that is why they believe that is where the name may have came from for the jeep.

Default The name Jeep...

IMHO, I'm not in love with that cover - but it's your ride, and you gotta do your thing.

IRT where Jeep came from, I thought it came from back in the days of the Great World War when the versitile General Purpose (a.k.a. GP) vehicle was used so extensively. I kinda figured "GP" slowly became Jeep in typical military acronymn-ese. Of course, this is just my guess, but it made sense to me.

Again, according to the program Mail Call, the GP theory is not true because GP was just a designation by one manufacturer (Ford, I think) for this where G was the code for Government and P for quarter ton vehicle. (I think that is it) But anyway, they totally disregarded the GP theory as myth.

I love Eugene the Jeep, I have collected several items of his. Check out my Avatar for a 2 inch Eugene. I can't believe nobody has ever commented on it.

Anyway many years ago, I was in the Jeep-L forum(late 90s). I don't know if it around anymore, but Eugene was the mascot and I started collecting him since then.

I'm not a big fan of that tire cover however:sad:

If you must run a tire cover, I like Eugene. I would actually like to have a small sticker of him to put somewhere inconspicuous on the Jeep.
