Default Suspension

Just upgraded to 08 JKUR. Have had multiple off road vehicles but first JK. The kids are old enough now and would like to come play"ride along"with us. I didn't purchase for daily driver and I would like some input to turn this into serious off road machine.

#1 search
#2 budget
#3 do it right the first time
#4 terrain and areas to be used ie overland/rock crawler/camping/hunting etc...

There's a TON of info pertaining to this all over as well as I'd start with what size tire you want to run based on purpose...

Want to save a lot of money? Fight the urge to upgrade until you have driven it for a while and done your homework.
What do you want to do with your JK? If you build a crawler you will throw away a lot of money when you realize you want to go fast in the desert and vice verse.
Some of the best upgrades are fairly cheap, such as replacing the crappy factory headlights.

Wow this is quite possibly the most open ended question ever. If its not a daily driver I say 60's front and rear with 40in tires, Hemi swap, Atlas transfer case, and a nice suspension system. Your welcome! If that doesn't work then throw us a bone and let us try to help you. Is there a budget? What kind of offroading? Is this being driven to the trail or trailered?

It all depends on how much metal your willing to cut. There are plenty of people on here running 37s on 4 inch lifts and a few on 2.5 inch lifts! Don't always assume bigger is better. But if your looking to run Dana 60s and 40 inch tires that might just be the one for you..

I'm running 37's with a 4" TeraFlex LA kit under my JK right now. A 6" with 37's will give you alot of space between the flares and tires. Now you can run 40's with the 6", but I like how some 38's look in there. Please let me know if there's anything that I can help you with.

6" and 38's.

4" and 37's.

Yep this is the setup I'm looking for. As little lift as possible and 37s. Willing to do some trimming and doing flat fenders. Would be awesome of I could get away with 2.5" of lift, but would be play with 4" as well.

if you're looking for doing as little lift as possible, i might recommend that you get an evo mfg bolt on coil over kit. it's fully adjustable and we've got ours set at only 3.5" of lift to clear 37" nitto trail grapplers. these are some shots that we took right after the install...

of course, on the rocks, you also get a hell of a lot more flex than a standard coil lift kit too...

here's a short video to show you just how well it performs too
