Default Suspension question

I have a question regarding my suspension. I have an '07 Sahara 4 dr. still with the stock shocks and springs. I also have over 90K miles on it. I am thinking of doing some work on the suspension, adding new springs to bring me back up to factory height because of all my addons. My question is when planning to work on a suspension what other then springs and shocks do I need to look at to replace? Then what do I need as far a shocks and other parts go. There are soooo many different types of shocks to choose from I don't have a clue what I need or don't need. So any help, suggestions, ideas, and anything else that I didn't mention is welcome.

Thanks,

Phil

if you're not going to go taller than stock, you don't need to look at replacing anything else. i should also add that it'll be hard to find a set of coils that will bring you back up to stock - more than likely, you will be taller and in some cases, measurably so. if you know how much taller you need to be to sit back at stock, i would recommend that you just install coil spacers as that will give you an exact amount and for cheap. regarding shocks, i would highly recommend that you get a good set of monotubes like bilstein 5100's. they are affordable and really, all that you need. don't cheap out and get a set of old school hydro shocks as they aren't worth it.

I am trying to go back to stock height, quadratic sells some spring coils that are made to return you to stock height. Plus to repair any wear and tear that I might have caused over the years.

my point is, you said your decrease in height has been caused by the mods you have added. does quadratec know how many lbs. you have added and are their coils really set to return you to stock from it? but hey, you can believe what you want as i'm just trying to help.

Check out this discussion thread: https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/stoc...uestion-85825/ Possibly you can get back up to height with a set of Rubicon take-off springs; otherwise the aftermarket is your friend. Suspension height is rarely predictable, but you can get close.

Much as I agree with Wayoflife about most things JK, I don't think we agree about spacers. When a spring gets compressed because of too much weight and/or age, you lose suspension travel. Lots of suspension travel and decent spring action are good things to have. When you put a spacer on top of an over-compressed spring, you get more height but the spring is still over-compressed. The suspension travel is still shortened, and the spring doesn't act like it would with the load it was intended for. Spacers are OK if the problem isn't too much weight or an aged spring however.

Considering it takes the same amount of work to change springs or add spacers, it makes sense to try and find the right springs. And, as long as the shocks will be partly dismounted in the process, treat yourself to a set of Bilsteins too.
