sway bar links: better too long or too short?
I have a 2010 JKU with a 2" lift. I need to change out the rear sway bar links. I am unable to find a link to fit with the 2" lift. I am told that I can use the OE links, but I also have found a few links that fit with a 2.5" lift. Am I better off using the OE and being 2" too short, or the link for the 2.5" lift and being 1/2 inch too long? I do plan on taking this off-road.
Go for the 2.5". Or just grab a set of adjustable links.
Generally, you do not want short links that have the swaybar angled down. When flexed, this can allow the swaybar to flip around backwards, causing some damage. (but giving you a good photo op). It will also depend on shock length. If you lifted 2" but still have stock shocks, the axle shouldn't droop far enough to let the swaybar flip.

I am not replacing because of the lift... I have had the lift for a few years, and I did swap out the links at that time. I am replacing them now because they need replacing.

How close can you get to the current length with the new ones?
As pointed out, longer is better than too short, especially when you start running some technical trails. They don't stretch, but will find weak links to bend or break.

If you weld, cut them in half and add a chunk of material to make the length you desire. It works like a champ. I use old U-bolts for things like that. Grind them smooth, paint them black, and no one will ever know you were there.
