To Switch Or Not?
Hey guys. New 2 the Jk forum. Let me start by me trading in my 97 TJ for a 2010 Rubi 4 door auto. So i buy my shiny new white jeep 2 days before it's time for me to head back to work. Which is over seas for 6-8 weeks. So I do what we all do with a new jeep, time to break out the old note pad for the wish list. So my list starts out with just about the same as I have listed, except for the lift kit which I only written so is 4 to 4.5 lift??? As I"am bobbling around like a cork in 35-45 ft seas in the South Atlantic off the coast of Argentina. My hands being stone white , deprived of any blood from tightly gripping the arm rest on the capt's chair. The only thing to ease my mind on this miserable night is thoughts of new jeep upgrades and my wife in a close 2nd. Two days later I'am home and what do I find ? My wife for a B-day present, took my note pad of wanted upgrades and had them installed at the local 4x4 shop. Seeing that most were AEV, decided to the fill the blank lift kit space with AEV's 4.5. I'am happy with the lift kit untill I start reading the hot topics of CBs . I wheel about 5-6 times in the month i'am home. Mostly mud, hills and the occasion fallen tree or stump . It's about all we have down here in the bayou state. I was planning on upgrading the gussets and DS this week. My question is should i do the AEV brackets or not ? Don't want to lose the 2'' of clearance i'am hearing about. Should i start with a new CA lift kit. Don't really know how difficult or costly it's going to be from AEV's lift to a ajustable CA lift. I would like to keep what i have now but if it's going to give me any problems in the future, might as well make the switch now! Sorry for the wall of text..
Check and see if the shop even did the Cam bolts right by cutting a slot in the control arm bracket. If not it will be no big deal to change to adjustable CA's. If they did cut slots you will need to basically have a heavy duty washer welded on to make the holes round again before you can use regular adjustable CA's. Either way you can keep the rest of the setup and just change out the arms.
Next time you get underway I'm parking my Jeep at your house!
To answer your question, if they cut the slots in your CA bracket it's an easy fix like Gcollura said. You just need to find the CA's you want and add them to your rig.
Post up some pics of your Jeep!

X2 on post the pic's. And, since I'm a little older, is your wife's mother married?
