Default Switching over to Rubicon take offs

I own a 2011 JKU wit hthe 18" saharas on it. I finally got done my little project of repainting my 17" rubicon wheels with the rubicon mud terrains and am ready to mount them. So I got a couple questions:

I sprayed the wheels with 4 coats of bedliner plus 3 coats of rustoleum, should I have them rebalanced?

I don't know if my wheels came with hthe TPMS system (where are they even located?) So assuming the rubi wheels didn't come with TMPS, can I use the TPMS from my 18" sahara wheels?

Lastly, will I need to have my speedometer recalibrated?

Dont think it would hurt to have them balanced, the TPMS must be the right frequency for your Jeep. It should pick them up right away. Youll know if it didnt (the light comes on) The 18' TPMS will work in the new rims. Just have the tire shop do it. They are tricky. The only time youll need recalibrated is if the tires are larger in diameter. I believe the MTs are 32"s May be little difference but not by much. 3-5 mph at higher speeds.

Balancing - throw them on and see how they feel

I believe everything after '07 came with TPMS. The module is attached to the valve stem on the inside of the rim. You can reuse your TPMS from the Sahara wheels if you want, but you'll have to break the beads and have the tires remounted. If the Rubi wheels have them, they may be compatible depending on the year vehicle the Rubi wheels are from (I'm not up to speed on TPMS compatibility).

Your Sahara wheels and tires (255/70-18) are the same diameter as Rubicon tires (255/75-17), so no computer adjustment/calibration needed for the speedo and odometer.

Cool, I'll give it all a try. The different dealers I called quoted me anywhere $220 - $300 for all 5 wheels and tires assuming that there's no TPMS and having to switch it over from my saharas.... yikes... Hopefully the bedliner and rustoleum didn't add weight to my wheels, but I think that's wishful thinking since I sprayed heavily. I'd rather get them rebalanced and mount them myself, but worse comes to worse, I drop $300 cash to get it all done.

How does the TPMS work? Is it wired from the wheel, or is there a wireless communication from the computer to the monitor in the wheel?

Edit: I think the rubi wheels came from a 2010 jk. I currently have a 11 jku and I know that the 2011 is the oddball of all years as far as electronics go..

It's a sensor inside the wheel that sends a wireless signal to the Jeep's computer.

I think the easy way to tell if you have tpms sensors still in is to look at the valve stem. If its metal they should be their, if rubber likely they have been removed. At least that is what I remembered.

And as for balancing, if you painted heavy, you will most likely have to re balance them. I does not take too much to throw off the balance.

No, they switched back to rubber stems with the TPMS (thankfully). I know the 2012's are that way, not sure when the switch was made though.

Only got them mounted and balanced, and the TPMS sensors didn't go off, so they must've still been in there. The valves were rubber, but when I uncapped them, it looked like metal or brass or whatever. I'm happy, and the jeep looks way better with the black wheels!

Are the 2012 compatiable with 08?
