Default Synergy vs Ruff Stuff Tie Rod

Hi Guys,

I'm in the process of trying to chase down a bad case of DW and figured I might as well replace the tie rod when I'm down there. Synergy seems to be popular tie rod around here and I like that it is just drop in, I don't have to do anything with it.

The Ruff Stuff (Offset Tie Rod Kit - RuffStuff Specialties) one has 1 ton TRE, cheaper, but has to be cut down/welded/painted and would have to find a local welder and someone with a band saw as I only have a cutoff wheel and angle grinder at home.

Any opinions between the two?

I went ruff stuff and can't complain TOO much. The tre jam nuts will get into the wheel if you don't have proper backspacing. I had 4.75 BS and still cut a ribbon of alloy out of the inner barrel of both wheels.

Also, don't fix mount anything to the tie rod. I welded ram tabs on and bent it just enough to change my toe in, and I now lack the adjustability to fine tune my toe in. I have to remove one tre from the knuckle to get it spot on.

The wheels I have sit with 5.71 BS so I think I should be okay in that aspect? They say you need at least 4.5 BS but similar to yours, I've heard otherwise.

By fix mount you mean weld on?

Your backspacing will be worse. You want a lower number for more room.

Go synergy. The ability to do your fine adjustments while it's ON the vehicle removes a lot if hassle. Plus their about as round as stock so you can use their SS clamps which are great for offroad

The Ruffstuff TR is adjustable on the vehicle. You can get 1 1/2" Clamps from Synergy . If youve got the dough Synergy (Chromoly>DOM), If you are replacing a mangled TR and are looking for a bargain get the Ruffstuff. Ive had the Ruffstuff on mine for about 2 years and its held up ok for what its been thru.

dont get this one...

Its 1.375 x .281.. I bent my 1.5 x .250 wall the very first trip out I did....

the ruff stuff is also 1.5 x .250 wall.... Id avoid that also...

Here is a pic of the old set up after the first trip... Doesnt look bad, but in person it was pretty bad...

Ive never tried the synergy, but id personally try that if I had to buy a tie rod...

A bad tie rod end can
exacerbate DW but not be the root cause. What have you done with the TB/mounts ?

Synergy FTW btw !!
