Default synthetic or cable winch?

ok i am trying to decide on cable or synthetic rope winch for my new ACE Eng mid width front bumper ..Also in the mix is the fact in MD a front license plate is required and with no place to put it on the actual bumper itself . trying to find a way to mount to what ever fairlead that comes with my winch choice any suggestions would be helpful

I would recommend synthetic rope. It's much safer if it snaps , won't rust, won't get metal splinters in your hand and it floats and is much lighter. Just make sure you keep it covered so the suns uv rays doesnt hurt it.

You can run a roller fairlead with either type or line also. I know those are easier to fab up your own license plate bracket for.

I'd recommend synthetic for all the reasons just JK'n mentioned.

I Don't understand jk.bushwacker's comment about synthetic lines being for pros. They are much easier to use and safer. If you can afford synthetic, go for it.

If I recall the ACE front bumper is heavy. If you are concerned about sag at all, the synthetic line will be lighter.

As stated previously Synthetic line is much lighter and easier to handle especially if your paying a lot of line out. The line is easy to maintain, I had my line on my last rig for almost five years and never had any issues with fraying or breaking. The biggest draw back to synthetic line is the cost.

I prefer steel, I have seen synthetic snap soo many times (even with the protective sheath on it), but never steel snap. I wear gloves around both.
It is a personal choice.
If a winch came with synthetic, I would leave it until it snapped.
If it came with cable, I would leave it forever. It is heavy and I can't run as fast to hook it up, but I like it.

Synthetical all the way. Just be sure to get a cover for it to protect it from uva damage

Having trouble visualizing this. Does the license plate cover the hawse fairlead, then you remove the plate and bracket when you need to winch?
Will his work with standard roller-type fairleads for steel cable?
Thanks for any clarification

Someone makes a license plate mount which clips into the roller fairlead
