Synthetic line -- no knot?
I bought a Warn winch - my first winch - and I'm installing the synthetic line to the drum... and I'm thinking that little bolt and crimpy thing aren't going to hold shit if I accidentally let out all the line. I know you're supposed to leave a certain amount of rope on the winch, but what if... You know, shit happens. So, I'm thinking, why not a use a good self-tightening sailing-type knot? Is there a reason why using a knot is a no-no? And if knots are ok, which type would you recommend?
Thanks!

I'm not sure if a knot is the way I would go but I would kinda have to see visually what your wanting to do. based on what I've seen I would try and do something where the last bit of rope runs the length of the drum and the rest of the rope overlaps on top of it somehow, at the same time still keeping the end conected with the crimpy thing...
I hope that doesn't confuse you. Thats how Winchline.com does theres and they have done extensive testing to find the best way to wrap a synthetic line...
I would say if your in situation where another 5 feet of line is the difference maker, why not just carry an extra 20' of tow strap and a D ring and you'll be able to keep much more on your spool. You can never have enough tow straps.
Right-o. Thanks for all the replies guys. Sounds like a non-issue. I'll just connect it as the manufacturer suggests -- crimpy thing and then a length on the drum with duct-tape to keep it in place. Then wind the cable over it.
