Default synthetic winch line ?

I replaced my wire rope with synthetic line. Can I use my warn snatch block with my new line? The snatch block has never been used so there should not be any burs or rough spots on it. Is there a special block for use with synthetic line?

If you have never used it with wire, you are good to go.

Be careful using the warn snatch block with synthetic. It uses a cast wheel and has some sharp edges on it. You are better off only using a snatch block that uses a delrin wheel like a ARB for example.

Thanks greggradwohl, the parts man at the dealer said there is a special block with non steel roller made for synthetic that is wider so less chance of pinching/messing up line. He works for a major Jeep dealer in Creve Coeur, Mo., where I bought my Jeep. We talked for an hour about Jeeps and wheeling off road. He said he/ the dealer ship was glad to see one of their Jeeps being used off road like it was meant to be. He showed me pictures of Jeeps that they have built up for customers and never been off road, one guy had $60,000 in his. It has 24 inch wheels on it. Get this, he really wanted 30 inch wheels but they wouldn't fit.

David--

Why didn't you tell me that when I ordered my winch, synth line and snatch block in the same phone call from you a couple weeks ago?

Yes, I have seen some of the old (warn) snatch blocks eat up new synth lines on a dual line snatch pulls.
The new synthetic winch lines look good in a textbook, but in the real world they are not up to the job when you have to do a big pull. Synthetic lines do not work well with heat , have seen them melt when working hard in hot climates.
The other draw back is that if you have to winch yourself out of thick bush, is that synthetic lines do not cope well with heavy brush and will stip away.
I am an advanced 4X4 instructor ( my real job) I teach drivers how to work, play and recover 4x4s. When it comes down to winch lines that are used in the real world, I can only say that the old school wire rope cable is still the best line to go for.

Hope this is of some value to you mate , you have the winch see how easy it is to win friends and influence people. Your JK could be the official recovery vehicle.

I dont agree with this at all. They both have the pro's and cons but the pro's outweigh the cons of synthetic line .

You can use the warn snatch block just inspect it beofre hand for any sharp edges.
