Quick question. My tailgate hinges are shot as my tailgate rattles a lot over bumps. I think it's a combination of some damage while wheeling and running a 35" spare. I am eventually going to replace the rear bumper and run a aftermarket tire carrier.

What other options are there? Does anyone make heavy duty tailgate hinges? The dealer wants $69 for each hinge.

Any other solutions that arent going to set me back huge $$$ until I decide what bumper and tire carrier I am going with?

Look at the Teraflex heavy duty tailgate hinges. Just put them on my girlfriends Jeep and they are great.

 

I know but $500....that's my issue....I could get a rear bumper/tire carrier for a few hundred more.

 

Yeah the TF hinge is pricey, but so worth it. Works perfect and weighs much less than bumper mounted carriers.

 

Anybody having a sale on the Teraflex Carrier? I have been looking at this a little more and this might be the way to go. I am in Canada but really close to the border...so I would just have it shipped to the USA address then just pick it up

 

Are you sure it actually the hinges themselves? Most of the problems usually stem from the welds inside the tailgate beginning to seperate from the weight pulling/bending the tailgate outward, and thats where the rattle usually develops...

Teraflex is the HEAT. I feel you on the price, though. R&D had to have been the factor on price, b/c the engineering on these is quite obvious.

 

i am torn on the price of the teraflex tire carrer and mount ($700 for the combo) and yes you could get a bumper and carrier for that much, but you would be getting the cheapest carrier/bumper on the market vs one of the best designed carriers, so its not that close of a comparison.

The reason I am heavely leaning towards the teraflex carrier is b/c with my 3.75 bs wheels my tire sticks out further than I would like and putting it on a swing out carrier would move it even further out...
