2 door or 4 door? Off road or for show?

After about 2.5" you have to start replacing expensive parts.....

If you have an auto, over 2.5" you end up with the front driveshaft hitting the tranny pan and tearing the boot. TONS of threads about this. I'm not going to tell you to search like everyone else.... I'll just say don't take my word for it.

Not the front, once you get around 4" and up, you need to look at replacing the rear ds.

I'm an auto unlimited with 4" lift, I ripped my boot off and haven't had problems with either driveshaft yet. I do wheel at least once every month. I am going to cut in to the crossmember/skid to allow the DS to drop a bit more.

Not to steal from the orig. question, but what is the max height for a 2 door w/ a manual transmission before you have to start replacing expensive stuff?

at about 3" of lift, you really need to address your rear drive shaft. of course, replacing it with an aftermarket u-joint style shaft will also require you to install a set of adjustable rear upper control arms so that you can set your pinion angle.
