Default Teraflex adjustable tire mount - rubbing

Today I installed teraflex's hinged carrier without issue. I then installed their adjustable tire mount. I'm at the point of adjusting it, and with it adjusted all the way out (one bolt through all 3 slots as their video shows), my oem 18''s on 35's still rub on the hinged carrier. I took off the left bump stop and tightened lug nuts to confirm it's flush and still it just does touch the carrier.
Is this expected?
I searched and found one other person with same problem and they were told it was by design. I'm ready to carry my spare!

I believe you need a spacer to run the stock wheel. Teraflex makes one that fits that carrier.

What about those who have the rugged ridge 17 rims with 4.67 back spacing? Spacer or no? Have the teraflex kit but havent had the time or decent weather.
Thanks

Those should not need a spacer to fit.

Send Teraflex a PM and tell them about it. I'm sure they will point you in the right direction.

There is a disclaimer on their website saying "**If using stock tires, a wheel spacer and slight modification is required**"

I think it is a bit of a design flaw but they must have assumed most people would also have modified backspacing if they were going to a larger tire. The issue is those that run spacers...

I'm ordering the carrier next week. Can't wait to get it on but I'm running aftermarket rims.

The only combo that doesn't work is stock wheels with bigger tires, because the stock wheels have so much backspacing, and then adding bigger tires pushes it further away from the tailgate even more.

Stock wheels and stock tires works, aftermarket wheels and stock tires work, aftermarket wheels and aftermarket tires work.
