Default TeraFlex Rear Sway Bar Link Mount Solution

With the recent posted concerns here at JK-Forum.com about the rear sway bar link mounting, TeraFlex has come up with a solution. It seems that with the 07-08 JK’s there was a unknown variance with how the sway bar bracket was welded to the axle. Some customers have no clearance problems while others do. FYI-TeraFlex gets a Soldiworks file from Jeep to design our product to. Unfortunately the welding doesn’t match the file. The quickest solution is to drill a new hole in the bracket to allow the sway bar to clear. Not every JK will need this done, as some will clear with no problem. You can take a pencil, put it through the center of the eyebolt. Hold it up to the bracket, check for clearance and mark it. Measure it and then apply the measurements to the other side. If anyone has a question about this, please call 1-801-288-2585 and ask for tech support.

Default Fix for Teraflex 2008 BB lift kit

I just received a call from Joe at Teraflex with the solution to the 2008 JK BB lift kit problem. If you haven't read it her yet, the sway bar links on the BB kit do not fit "Some" of the 2008 JK's. The braket on the 2008 jeep as Joe put it "has a lot of variance from vehicle to vehicle. Some work, some don't." This is a problem with assembly at the jeep plant. The bracket position seems to vary a bit throwing a real wrench into the mix of 3rd party kits.

His solution is to drill a new 1/2" hole for the sway bar in the bracket. The drawings that he sent to me are also posted on the Teraflex website. The show an approximate position of the new hole in the bracket. He said to take the jeep off the jacks and on a level surface and line up the sway bars on the bracket and mark approximately 3/4 of an inch above the old hole. The new hole may not be in the same place as the picture, but similar and in the same position on both sides. Mark and drill. The bracket has plenty of room and strength to support another hole (and it won't elongate the original hole, Teraflex's first solution.) Joe said this was the procedure for cJ's and one other model jeep.

I am satisfied with this procedure as it should not compromise the integrity of the joint. I appreciate Joe calling me. Looks like Teraflex is really concerned about their products and their customers. Pictures follow:

Sorry not CJ's but on the front of XJ/MJ/ZJs this can be done on the axle mount for the trackbar.

Thanks Joe for calling me as well. I am also satisfied with this solution since it will not risk wallowing of the hole and is a simple fix. I looked at my link bracket and there appears to be plenty of room for this. I have used Teraflex parts in my past jeeps and will continue to do so. If there are any problems or concerns, I'll post them up after I do this this weekend.

Joe, I hope you will hang out here from time to time and contribute to the site, I think if you read a little here, you will note that there are a butt load of people using your equipment here and it would be nice to have a mfg around to bounce ideas off of.

OK, Im a bit confused now.

The TF BB is essentially just spacers...it has no rear sway bar links.

Why would the rear sway bar link hit the tire after a lift if it didn't before the lift?

The only thing I can think of is that all the lifts would tend to drag the rear axle towards the passenger side, which would drag the driver's side tire closer to the sway bar link on that side...is the rub ONLY on the drivers side rear tire?

I understand the discussion on moving the link up out of the way a bit more, but, is the axle shft the reason its required?

(I mean, really, wouldn't ANY lift of equivalent height have the same effect? - unless a rear track bar was added to control the shift, etc?)
