Default Tereflex steering Damper

Is anyone having issues with the Teraflex Steering damper? I am now on my 3rd one in just over 18 months. Every time I take my Jeep in for a issue they tell me it is leaking and they can not do any further diagnosis until it is replaced. The part is covered but they charge .8 hours of labor which is a small fortune. If it wasn't for the fact that i need my Jeep to commute to work and it is a pain to take it in I would do it myself (I mean its only 2 bolts). Unfortunately though it is difficult for me to get a ride to and from work when it is in the shop. Any way just curious if this is a known issue with these.

Have you even looked at it to see if it actually is leaking?Dealers are not the most trustworthy . So, lets see, if I have this right, you've brought it in 3times and they found a leaky stab 3times and they replaced this part that is not theirs( or is it??) and just charged you labor but never figured out what your prob was ?So they fix the stab and do no further diagnostics, but they can't do further diagnostics till the stab is fixed. Sumpin aint right.

Mine leaked and I chucked in in the trash less than a year old. It was not at all damaged from the trail and had not one ding on it. Running the stock stabilizer again.

I would of warrantied that for you.

If anyone has one that leaks/fails and there's no body damage, TeraFlex will cover the part but you will have to cover the shipping, typically.

Actually it did leak and the dealer installed the lift so they warranted the part. But the vibration I am having is why they stated they had to replace it in order to rule it out. I know that was not the cause but like I stated it is difficult to get it in so I just let them replace it. I can guarantee there will not be a next time. For the cost of labor I can buy something else. Both replacements had no damage by the way. It just seems that these do not hold up very well. No disrespect to Teraflex I love their product. They may want to look into it though. JMT's

Ok, I wasnt gettin at the stabilizer, no matter what brand leakin, what I was gettin at is why the heck when they replace the stabilizer each time when they haven't found the SOURCE of the vibe. You should be able to run the jeep without a SS and the only thing you should notice is alittle more bumpsteer when hitting holes/bumps. Not vibes????? A SS may mask where the vibes are originating from. What kind of vibes are you having? Certain speed , all the time? Did it just start? Do you rotate your tires frequently? How much lift, what components have been changed and what are you currently running?

How is fail defined? Mine is making a popping noise when it is expanded or compressed. Motion doesn't feel uniform or smooth, at least with the front jacked up and turning the tires back and forth by hand. Its less than a year old and steering + suspension + tires are stock other than the Teraflex steering damper and Teraflex leveling kit. I don't see any damage or fluid leaking out.

I've been trying to track down the source for an increase in bumpsteer and this is all I can find that doesn't seem right. I replaced the OEM one after I bent the shaft. But I don't recall it making a noise like this. Up until a few months ago everything was fine, problem didn't start until well after the products were installed.

I don't know how I would facilitate a swap out since this is the only one I have, and with all the potholes up here in MI I'm scared to run without one even for a few days.

Dealer won't warranty any repairs to fix bumpsteer due to the "aftermarket steering stabilizer and sway bar end links" (which are both Teraflex). For other items they have been pretty good though. I've already checked torque on the track bars and control arms. I don't know if this is the cause of the problem, but its the only thing I have found that didn't seem right so far. Thanks!

Want to let everyone know, my Teraflex SS had since started leaking. Sent some pics to Joe @ Teraflex and just last night a new one showed up at my door. Installed on the Jeep and ready to go... if only it would stop raining I would see if there is any improvement.

I did notice that this one is labeled "assy in Mexico", whereas the one I got about a year ago is "made in USA". There was some paint flaking off as received, and a bit of noise when manually extending/compressing. Hoping this one holds up!

Thanks Joe for the quick & hassle-free replacement.
