Question Terflex 2.5" BB - With or without shocks?

Hi all,

First time poster, long time lurker. Finally pulled the trigger on a '12 Sahara.

I have 18x9 XD Misfits and 295/65R18 Hankook ATM RF10's on order and I'm also looking to put in a Teraflex 2.5" BB.

My question is, should I go with the kit that includes the shocks? This will be daily driver for me, so I don't want to compromise the on road ride and handling (or as little as possible).

I'm wondering:

A. Which Teraflex 2.5' kit will give me the best on-road performance (ie. least amount of change from the "factory" feel).
B. If I go with replacement shocks, should I buy the Teraflex ones? I do have access to automotive parts at discounted prices (my old man is parts manager at a local shop)
C. What upgrades should come next!!??

Thanks for your input.

2.5" BB will give you just that- 2.5", the stance of the JK will be the same, just higher. I ran that for a couple of years with the shock extensions for my Rubi, no problem. It felt amazingly similar to stock. The 2.5" spring lift will give you a bit more of a lift, and level out the JK evenly. I don't have any experience with the ride of the TF spring lift, but plenty of owners have loved it. If I had to do it over again with TF, I would spend the extra $ for the spring lift. It was not available when I got my BB. Early days of the JK, you know...

Hmmm ,that's interesting. As I understand it, the 2.5" BB also evens out the factory rake (2.5" lift on the front, 2.0" lift on the back). And I'm not talking the springs here.

Maybe I should re-phrase my questions:
1. Is the BB with shock adapters a better/worse ride than the one with shocks?
2. Are the teraflex shocks any good, or should I just buy different shocks myself? (I have access to great pricing on stuff like that)

Here are the packages I'm talking about from Teraflex's site:

JK Wrangler 2.5” Performance Budget Boost w/adapters:

JK Wrangler 2.5" Performance Budget Boost w/shocks

Sorry if my first post was a little murky.

I have the 2.5" coil lift with shock adapters. My Jeep is my daily driver and the kit works great on the trail. I went with the coils because I don't want my springs to sag much when more weight is added to the Jeep. I hear that happens when you keep the stock coils and add a steel bumper and/or winch. I went with the shock extenders because my stock shocks were still new. I'll replace them with longer shocks when they wear out. At first I found the ride a little stiffer but not bad. The springs have either settled and softened or I've gotten used to it by now.

PS - I also got 1" spacers put in the rear because I actually like the factory rake. I often have a lot of stuff in the back that makes it sit lower back there anyway. It looked like the ass end was nearly dragging without the rake and lots of gear in the back.

PPS - I can't verify this, but I hear that the Teraflex shocks are better than stock Sport and Sahara shocks but not quite as good as the Rubicon shocks.

Good luck with your decision. Hopefully it's the right one for you!

Whole setup is cheaper at Quadratec, which is where I got mine. I love Teraflex products and have added their disconnects and DANA 30 diff cover. About the lift, take the one with the shocks or research around for some other longer ones that will fit. I have no issues and it does feel very close to a stock ride with the Teraflex shocks. I am not running the springs and have the exact kit you are looking at getting, have a look at my profile album for pics if you want to see any. Good luck and have fun doing the installation! Get some pics posted when you are lifted!

When I had my Tera BB, the front and back spacers were both 2.5" (they must have changed that in the interim), so the rake was the same pre- and post-lift. As far as the ride, mine was the same after installing the spacers and shock adapters. I cannot speak to the quality of TF shocks, I have never used them. I'm pretty sure you can find better riding shocks, though.

I think for on road you can't beat bilsteins, but they are about $90 a piece. Maybe run the shock extensions for a few months, and see how it goes.
