Default Thoughts about work done by dealer...

I recently purchased a 2012 JK Wrangler Sport from my totally honest mechanic - no lies, lol...Anyway I upgraded my wheels and tires to I want to say 35 inch tires...17 inch....Anyway shortly after the Jeep would go into limp mode....very little power when pressing gas pedal...red triangle and check engine light would come on....Once we restarted Jeep everything would go back to normal...I found the two codes that came on but never kept them...Anyway, after this happening once or twice a month for 3-4 months i decided to take Jeep into local dealer...The codes had been cleared but they informed me that they would be able to see the history of codes and figure out the problem...Anyway, they called me back and asked how long ago i put the larger tires on...I told them within 1500 miles...they said this is what is causing the problem..that the computer (????) needed to be recalibrated with the the larger tire size...They also told me they did a Flash to the PCM and TCM??? I might be wrong with my abbreviations...and then basically said that the tires are what was cayusing the Jeep to go into limp mode..and that HOPEFULLY this should resolve the problem.....Has anyone ever encpuntered this similar issue? i know if it happens again I will take down the codes....Im going to look and see if I had ever wrote a post about the codes before...But Im wondering if you think this recalibration will resolve the issue or did I just piss away $260 bucks...THANKS

I believe 2012+ JKs need to have the actual tire diameter in the computer to avoid limp mode. The older JKs didn't care, except for speedometer accuracy.
The same goes for correct gear ratio, too.

Rather than paying the dealer to input the new tire size (or gear ratio, if you get around to that), you can do it yourself with any of a number of Programmers or Tuners on the market. AEV ProCal, Superchips FlashCal or Flashpaq, Diablosport inTune, etc, etc, etc. Lots of nifty features on these things in addition to tire height and gear ratio.

y, that kinda sux that you tossed them $260, cuz that would have bought you a nice programmer. Let's look on the bright side.....you found JK-Forum and can avoid these little mishaps in the future! Welcome aboard.

AEV is a must have tool, in my opinion. I rarely seek the dealer's advice!
