Default Thoughts on Diff guards.

I am looking at adding some protection to my diffs. Are the metal guards you can buy any good? there are some that are plate steel, and others that are tube steel. any thoughts?

I use a Rancho front diif skid and a AEV Nth Degree rear diff skid on my stock height 2008 Rubicon. I'm going to put them on my 2012 Rubicon along with Riddler Diff covers, Rock Hard skid plates, & lower control arms skids. I really used them on rocky Az trails but they held up really well.

Photo of the Rancho front diff skid from the front after use, just scratches (I powder coated the skid black over the stock red)

i would say upgraded diff covers are better bang for your buck, your axle housing is actually pretty strong since its made from cast iron.

I stayed away from the skids because you 'could' still rip it off, possibly stripping the bolts. My Riddler covers are smooth and protect the bolts. Just my $.02

My thoughts exactly

I even got a little creative with the paint on my Riddler Cover

As for the front the Dynatrac cover on my PR44 is more than up to the Job, I really like the dual rib on the bottom to protect the lowest bolt too.
